Our Process
Emerging Scholars takes a holistic and innovative approach to the complex issue of educational inequality. The program focuses on bright, determined fourth graders and guides them throughout their educational journey. ES is the only free wrap-around program in the DMV where scholars receive 1000+ hours of instruction, followed by a lifetime of sustained support. This approach utilizes a diverse collaboration between a team of staff, teachers, and partner schools, to create a unique plan for each individual student that bolsters their academic and leadership goals.
Preparatory
A comprehensive 14-month academic, leadership, and social preparation for qualified, bright rising fourth graders at no cost to families in the DMV. Prep integrates critical thinking, leadership ability, social skills and personal growth with academic preparation in STEAM subjects. 95% of Prep graduates go on to earn acceptance to independent schools and enroll in the 6th grade, determined and equipped to thrive. The independent school experience offers high academic standards, individual attention, and personal accountability which are essential to the success of the ES scholar. In turn, schools benefit from well-prepared students and families who enrich the culture and communities of the ES partner schools.
Advancement
Advancement commences immediately upon completion of Prep. ES scholars continue to receive academic and social support throughout middle school, high school, and college. Working closely with parents and partner schools, ES staff monitors academic progress, in addition to providing application assistance, test preparation, portfolio building, interview rehearsals, identification of enrichment opportunities, a professional network of support and much more. ES offers this sustained support to ensure scholars remain on track to achieve their highest potential.
